Our Chapter
The Chapter is our governing body that leads the Allston Abbey in pursuit of our shared purpose and cares for our physical property. In accordance with our by-laws as the inaugural Intentional Episcopal Community of our diocese, Chapter members and officers are appointed by our diocesan bishop, the Rt. Rev. Julia Whitworth.

The Reverend Isaac Martinez (he/him), Convener
As a queer Latino priest, Isaac’s deepest passion is to ensure that each person, no matter their identity or background, knows they are loved by their Creator and that there is a place for them in Christ’s body. He prays, works, and serves to make the Episcopal Church one that “looks and acts like Jesus” in the words of former Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.
He serves as Priest in Charge at Trinity Parish in Melrose, a redeveloping suburban congregation. Isaac was appointed Convener of the then Executive Committee by Bishop Alan Gates in December 2023 after serving as a member since March 2021.
An alumnus of Harvard College and Harvard Divinity School, Isaac was ordained to the priesthood in January 2020. He has also served parishes in
Brookline and Newton, MA.
Isaac lives in Medford with his husband, Ben, and their numerous plant-children.

D. in Theological Studies from Boston College in 2001 she has taught at a number of colleges, universities, and seminaries in the Midwest and on the East Coast, including seven years at Bexley Hall Seminary (now Bexley Seabury), and several years as adjunct instructor at Episcopal Divinity School until the closure of its Cambridge, MA campus in 2018.
She was ordained a priest in 2010 in the Diocese of Southern Ohio, and has served parishes in Ohio, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, most recently as associate rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brookline, MA.
Currently she serves as Coordinator of the Anglican/Episcopal Community of Learning and Adjunct Instructor in Anglican Studies at the Boston University School of Theology, and is also on the faculty of The Stevenson School for Ministry out of the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania, which provides online formation for persons preparing for lay and ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church. The Reverend Ema Rosero-Nordalm (she/her)
Ordained to the Sacred Order of the Diaconate in June 2012, Ema has served Latino Communities in this country and abroad with faith, hope, and love, in roles as mentor, companion and facilitator of trainings, spiritual retreats, and support to clergy establishing new Latino Ministries. Her delight and praise to God is to witness the work of guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and experiencing the profound, joyful, and transforming moments of response of Latino laity when they feel affirmed in their gifts and talents, validated in their wisdom and wholeness, and enthusiastically invited to work for others as a community of faith and in Christ’s name.

The Reverend Isaac Everett (he/him), Treasurer
Isaac is the Executive Director of Creche, a network of intergenerational, faith-rooted intentional communities living in service to their neighborhoods and in relationship with nearby congregations. One of Creche's communities, the Emmanuel House, is a core ministry of The Allston Abbey and is responsible for the incredible community garden that welcomes visitors to our space.
Isaac is a passionate believer in intentional community, having lived in one for nearly a decade and a half and founded four others. He is also a musician and dancer and is thrilled that The Abbey has not only become a home to Boston's Lindy Hop community, but also frequently hosts tango, fusion, and other social dances.
When he's not leading a nonprofit, dancing, or obsessing over The Abbey's finances, Isaac likes to play nerdy roleplaying games and compete in the sport of Olympic-style weightlifting.

Pia Bertelli (she/her)
Pia is a postulant for the diaconate in the Diocese of Massachusetts, entering into her second year of formation. Raised doing community service and with a keen awareness of others, the life of a deacon seemed a natural path to explore when her expected life took an unexpected turn. She has served teaching young children, mentoring youth, teaching Confirmation and accompanying youth on mission trips abroad. As her sponsoring church's Outreach chair, she has been involved in supporting both secular and parochial organizations mainly within Boston. This past year, she managed the diaper ministry at Salem’s bilingual St Peter’s / San Pedro Episcopal church, where she also attended and served at both services. Pia is trained in Ignatian Spiritual Direction (SSJ) and is a certified Dreamworker, trained at the Haden Institute in Asheville, NC in a Jungian and Christian methodology.
A great believer that dreams are “unopened letters from God”, she believes God has given us all we need to do the work of bringing in God's kingdom. Dreams are often offering us the messages we need to be all God desires us to be. She enjoys doing both individual and group dream work.
Recently Pia moved with her daughters and cats from the suburbs of Newton to the neighborhood of Charlestown. She enjoys reading, knitting, live music, sailing, hiking and skiing. Living in Charlestown means she is close to Boston Harbor, her little sailboat and walking to cultural events in the city.
